'The Great North Steam Fair' Exhibition 2015

The 2015 Model Tramway Exhibition at Beamish, the Living Museum of The North, took place on April 11/12 th and was part of the 'The Great North Steam Fair' which was the first part of the 'Great North Festival of Transport'.

It was held in the usual venue of the Collections Study Room which was signposted from the Foulbridge tram and bus stops.

Beamish

'Beamish', their work-in-progress tramway, was brought to its first exhibition by Gordon & Margaret Bulmer. It acquired a temporary backscene on Sunday morning before the exhibition opened.

After some early electrical problems, it eventually ran all eight 00 scale Beamish fleet trams at the same time on the second day of the exhibition. Of course this could never happen in real life.

Blackpool Seafront

'Blackpool Seafront' was brought by John Docherty for its third appearance at Beamish, it runs 00 scale Blackpool single deck and double deck heritage trams and modern low floor trams.

Crikey Preserved Tramway

'Crikey Preserved Tramway' was brought by Peter Boyt for its first appearance this far north. It runs a huge number of trams in 00 and H0 from many British and European cities.

Peter had 65 trams available for use, most of which were used sometime over the weekend.

Julius Bruhns Strasse

'Julius Bruhns Strasse' brought by John Forster for its first exhibition appearance. It represents a European city and runs H0 scale modern trams.

Despite a difference of opinion with a slitting disc during setup, and a visit to hospital, John and his team had a successful exhibition.

Model Town Tramway

'Model Town Tramway' was brought by 8 years old Jack Docherty for only its second exhibition appearance. It runs N gauge heritage and modern low floor trams in a fictitious town.

During the event he supervised other children, some older than him, driving the trams.

Ober

'Ober' was brought by John Huddlestone for its first visit to Beamish and its furthest visit north, It runs vintage H0 Hamo continental trams.

Stockport 1936-37

Stockport 1936-37 brought by Greg Marsden and family with its large number of trams in 1/16 scale for its third visit to the Beamish exhibition.

Trumpton

'Trumpton' was brought by Darren Franklin for its first exhibition this far north. It runs 00 trams.

Wearmouth

'Wearmouth' was brought by Peter Rose for its third appearance at Beamish. This is an automatic tramway which runs 00 scale Sunderland trams built from white metal kits.

Alan Kirkman

Alan Kirkman brought his tram repair and mechanism building skills to Beamish and was his usual helpful self especially when Beamish had some electrical problems while setting up on Friday.

TLRS Estates Service

The exhibition was supported by Derek Lambelle who brought the Tramway & Light Railway Society Estates Service Model Tramway Shop.

Derek operates this shop as a service to tramway modellers families where the modeller has died and left trams, books and other tramway related bits and pieces which the families no longer want.

Smart Models

Brian Taylor brought the Smart Models shop which sells downloadable print-your-own building kits.

Brian had his first model of the Beamish Co-op, shown in the centre of the photo, available for visitors to inspect along with his large range of other model buildings.
