Leeds No.6 |
---|
No.6 was built in 1901 by Hurst Nelson for Hull Corporation Tramways and as No.96 it ran as an open top double deck car but was later modified to include a roof of the ‘Bellamy’ type featuring open balconies. The car was totally enclosed about 1930 and was cut down to single decker form in 1933 for use as a stores car and snow plough.
The closure of the Hull tram routes led to No.96 being sold with a number of other passenger cars to Leeds in 1942-45. There it ran as Stores Car number 6, until the closure of Leeds City Tramways in 1959.
It was restored in 1988 and ran at Heaton Park as Hull No.96 until 2008 when it received an overhaul to its bodywork, truck and motors, emerging in the autumn in its austerity grey livery as Leeds Works Car No.6. It was loaned to Beamish from April 2010 to April 2013. After its return to Heaton Park it was overhauled again and returned to service in 2015 as Hull No.96.
